  1. Slugging pct your go-to stat for a middle infielder? Really…

As for hooks, the only one I care about is the one inside your mouth.

    BOOM!

  3. I’ve watched Maicer play for the Angel’s for years now and I think he will definitely bring a lot of value to the Blue Jays.

He is quite capable of being a great singles/doubles hitter for decent average (.280) and he can selectively steal bases as indicated in the article. He is also a solid clutch-type hitter and isn’t afraid when he’s in the batter’s box.

Solid pick up for the Jays, they seem to like Angels players lately (read: Napoli, Mathis, Wilson, et. al.).

  4. Am I the only one that read this headline as an article about Maicer Izturis’s new apartment in Toronto? “

  5. I kind of hoped the Rays would be in on Itzuris for a 2b/Utility guy. Scutaro seems to old, Keppninger isn’t nearly as good a fielder, I don’t see any SS available except maybe through trade. This was a good price the Rays could have afforded too.

  6. Izturis gives the Blue Jays exactly what they were looking to get out of the second base position, for a great deal. With a pretty bad 2nd base market this offseason, I’m a bit surprised that Izturis wasn’t able to find a slightly better contract. On the other hand, accepting this type of deal suggests that he was more interested in the third year and possible fourth year than anything else. Props to the Blue Jays, they figured out 2nd base and now they can move on to their starting rotation.

  7. Boy thats a rough run of winter meetings for Blue Jays fans… Oliver and Izturis being the biggest FA signings in 4 years… ouch

  8. GM AA just doesn’t like overpaying. period.

So unless he can find a bargain on the FA market, he won’t spend.

  9. Any player that ensures Omar Vizquel doesn’t take anymore hacks (yes I know he is retired) is good with me.

    Quality signing.

  10. Gnash! Gnash! Gnash!
That is the sound of me gnashing my teeth that the Rays didn’t get him for a similar contract.

  11. I have to applaud you guys here at FG. I saw the headline and thought, I can’t imagine a more uninteresting player to have to write about. But you wrote about it, and you wrote about how interesting Izturis lack of interest is. haha!

I have a been a big fan of Izturis in the past. There were seasons that he was more deserving of the starting jobs at 3b, SS, or 2B than the guys the Angels stuck there – but he never could hold down the starting job. The reason the Angels would never trust him with a starting spot is because he cannot keep himself in the lineup.

Likely he wont be starting in Toronto, but I grew tired of Izturis even as a reserve in the last year or so. His head didn’t seem in the games. his mental errors had to be the highest on the team despite not being in the lineup all that often. I’m glad to see him moving on… of course I could find myself similarly frustrated with whoever takes his place next year.
