  1. The one downside for Lopez is that his road ERA is 1.5 runs higher than at home.

  2. As an Astros fan, it is a little sad to see him go, because we got very used to that 92-95 MPH power sinker and the fact that he just never walked anyone. Really excellent reliever. Hope the prospects we get are good.

To the Phillies phans out there, you can thank Ed Wade for this; he’s the guy that picked Lopez up off the waiver scrap heap ;-)

  3. I looked at that, but I can’t think of any good reason why we should put stock in that as meaningful. Probably just a random blip.

  4. If there is one thing Wade knows – that’s middle relief.

  5. “That’s a save celebration. Wilton Lopez developed a save celebration. He’s going to have to abandon it now, or turn it into a hold celebration. Note: a 2012 Astros closer recorded saves.”

What the… oh, it was against the Cubs. That makes sense.

  6. Yes, the Astros are bad. We get it.

  7. Based on the headline, I would have also accepted an article devoted his left foot.

But I suppose the right arm is the most logical extremity on which to focus.

  9. The best part of being an Astros fan now is watching the Yankees, Red Sox, Detroit etc. come to town. At least it’s a chance to see new teams.

  10. Lopez has been a quietly excellent Ottoneu/LWTS play for the past few seasons combining the stinginess with walks w/ OK K rates, 4+ out appearances, and garnering a handful of holds every year w/ the ‘stros. I like him to grab 20+ holds in 2013 for the Phils and be a top shelf holds arm in leagues where that matters.

  11. Sadly, I’m excited for the move to the AL West because at least I get to see them more often when they come visit me in LA.

  12. We’re rowing the same boat, Houstonian. And thankfully we won’t be subjected to the dreadful Dodger Stadium experience to see them.

  13. I hope not! I imagine they’ll kick in Sebastian Valle, who’s now expendable, and one of their young relievers, maybe Diekman. Hopefully they hold onto Ruf.

  14. Trade collapsed following a physical yesterday, reportedly due to concerns about Lopez’s elbow :(
