  1. This system is far from the shambles that some have been calling it after recent trades. I’d say pretty mid-pack.

  2. Puig, Seager, and Lee in that order IMO elevate the system by being true impact talents, the nice thing is they don’t need them to be

  3. I agree. The system now has two solid hitting prospects it did not have at this time last year.

  4. Yeah, note how many of them either signed recently or came from the 2012 draft. That alone should suggest that in past years it wasn’t too great.

Also, Seager, Puig and Valentin are all new to the system, and last year they traded away possible top-5 guys Allen Webster and Ethan Martin, both pitchers, so you can imagine how pitcher-heavy (and by extension, light-hitting) the system was before this year.

  5. I think Garcia would be better suited in the rotation. It would be a crying shame to waste his talents as a Southpaw in the bullpen. The kid has a fastball that can reach as high as 95 consistently, 2 breaking pitches that he can change speeds at will on, and is working on a curve. The guy can flat out pitch and may be a better pitcher than Lee. 4 pitches that will be above average from a Southpaw.

  6. C’mon Joc Pederson is a badass name for a ballplayer. He should get extra points just for that.

  7. Impressive frame on Gould? He’s the most chubby, out of shape pitcher in the CAL league.

  8. He prefers the term “Sabathia-esque”

  9. No.

  10. Dick, why are you being such a you?

    Comment by Atari — December 24, 2012 @ 3:09 pm

  11. Agreed. He reminds me — body type-wise — of a taller Chad Billingsley. He has the frame to handle a bigger workload, but with that comes concerns about his durability/conditioning.

  12. Where would Rubby De La Rosa be on this list if he were eligible?

  13. Ehh….doesn’t look like a very good farm to me.

  14. I could see number 2. He’s got an upper-90’s fastball with good sink and a deep slider as a starter, he’s pretty much big league ready and he’ll be 23. He might need more pitches but his fastball is pretty special.

  15. It’s not top 10, but it’s well rounded and improved from last year. There are a lot of very young guys. It’s got some depth, it’s main weakness is a lack of top-tier prospects. I think that’s good for the Dodgers now, because they have a good number of impact players, but they may have a problem with the supporting players, since they aren’t going to be able to sign 20 free agents to fill every remaining roster spot.

  16. what are your thoughts on alex castellanos? i know he’s getting older, but he seems to have solid milb stats and there were talks of him going 2b for the dodgers.

  17. De La Rosa actually has a promising — but inconsistent — changeup. His slider is fringy. His fastball is no joke, though.

  18. I’d say bottom-third with a chance to be middle-of-the-pack after this year. Loved the 2012 draft class and some international signings.

  19. Reed is way overvalued here.
    Pederson is slightly undervalued.

  20. Ryu……?

    Comment by kim — December 25, 2012 @ 8:53 pm

  21. Ryu isn’t projected to pitch in the minors but is slotted to be the 4th starter for the Dodgers
