  1. You see my GS Dinger! last night? And I’m playing 1B. Great year to have your last name start with B!

  2. Yadi Molina has also played in all the Cards’ games this year. Backup Tony Cruz only has 2 PAs for the season.

  3. You’ll notice that I pulled the text of the chat out of the CIL tool and copied it directly into the post. We’re interested in your feedback on this – are you more likely to read the transcripts after the chats are over in this format? Would you prefer we did this with all chats? Does it not matter?

  4. I would pocket the $500 million and sell the team. I am a major league owner, after all.

    Comment by Krog — April 17, 2013 @ 2:08 pm

  5. I much prefer it this way. I don’t have to wait for coveritlive to load, scrolling is easier, and the pure text is more work safe.

  6. Disagree with the Marlins being worse than the Astros, pitching is so much better from 1-12, and young players of much higher quality. Fernandez alone tips the scales the Marlins way.

  7. I very much like the text pulled out for the chat transcripts.

    Comment by rogue_actuary — April 17, 2013 @ 2:24 pm

  8. Agreed. I always copied it out myself anyway.

  9. That’s two more PAs than Royals backup catcher George Kottaras has. He is the only major leaguer yet to get into a game this year.

  10. “50 game suspension without pay for first DUI. Would you support that or is it too intense?”

Absolutely fair punishment. If someone’s stupid enough to incur a second DUI, make it 100 games.

  11. Uh Dave, before you go, don’t forget to give us a review of Husk in Charleston, although I suggest you also do lunch at Hominy Grill, and…damn. Too late.

    Comment by Wobatus — April 17, 2013 @ 2:37 pm

  12. Please please keep doing this

    Comment by Damon — April 17, 2013 @ 2:37 pm

  13. I like this way a lot better as the coveritlive system never works very well on my mobile device (sides get cut off). Also this makes it so you don’t have to deal with scrolling issues.

    Comment by Eric — April 17, 2013 @ 2:38 pm

  14. Yes, this is great. My office blocks Coveritlive.

    Comment by maguro — April 17, 2013 @ 2:43 pm

  15. I’m not going until the first weekend in May. Hominy Grill and FIG are also in the plan. It is going to be a fun weekend.

    Comment by Dave Cameron — April 17, 2013 @ 2:46 pm

  16. Definitely prefer it. The chat is fine to follow live, but becomes a pain in the ass after it’s finished. This is great. Thanks.

  17. I think it is a little bit easier to read this way ,but not a huge difference .

    Comment by Dirck — April 17, 2013 @ 2:58 pm

  18. LOVE IT, i like to copy and paste and Coverit, messes that up

    Comment by Tvators — April 17, 2013 @ 3:08 pm

  19. not sure if i just got used to the old format, but i found this more difficult to read.

    Comment by JT — April 17, 2013 @ 3:11 pm

  20. Major improvement. Coveritlive is close to unusable on an iPad.

    Comment by Bookbook — April 17, 2013 @ 3:16 pm

  21. Many states include jail time with that second DUI. You’d think that would be a major disincentive.

    Comment by Bookbook — April 17, 2013 @ 3:18 pm

  22. Can we just have both?

    Comment by gouis — April 17, 2013 @ 3:35 pm

  23. I keep getting hung up on the respondents name. There is not enough differentiation (bold, italics etc)in it for the eye to follow easily. Your name being emboldened helps but there needs to be something else.

    Comment by Rick — April 17, 2013 @ 3:44 pm

  24. Dave, it is a tremendous understatement to say that I love this. I have a hard time following the chats at work so I often read them later. I can’t do that from my kindle in cil but can read this with my kindle. Please keep doing this.

    Comment by chuckb — April 17, 2013 @ 5:06 pm

  25. Prefer it this way–easier to read, easier to scroll.

    Comment by Nickname Damur — April 17, 2013 @ 5:31 pm

  26. I far prefer this format. For the last several months, I haven’t been able to access completed chats on my IPhone. This solves that problem.

    Please keep it up!

    Comment by Adrock — April 17, 2013 @ 5:31 pm

  27. During sentencing a Judge considers aggravating and mitigating factors. DWI’s have aggravating factors that include level of intoxication, careless and wreckless driving, previous DWI’s etc. I don’t think a 50-game sentence is warranted in ALL situations, but I can see some situations where it would be applicable and also some situations where a 100-game situation might be necessary (repeat offender). Gallardo did blow a .22 so I think a 50-game suspension in his case is justifiable.

On the other hand, he does play for a team named the Brewers!

  28. Do it always forever this is awesome I love it.

    I hope that’s clear =P

  29. Theory about why George Kotteras hasn’t played– the Jason Kendall effect. When a team had Jason Kendall as its catcher, he hypnotized the organization into believing a backup isn’t necessary. The Pirates went a couple week once without even a proper backup. Look at Oakland with Kurt Suzuki– he had one month in the majors when they traded Kendall to get him a chance to play, and the next year he led the league in catcher games. Kendall left KC in 2010 but he was in the organization as a coach last spring, so they got the bug. It’s cured when the No. 1 catcher falls apart from overwork.

  30. This new format if you’re getting shaped on your internet- I watched too many games on MLB-tv and used up all my GB allowance on my internet. As an aside- MLB-tv is stuffed for me- I have to watch it on HD, as SD doesn’t load, and it uses up all my internet.
Also on the DUI thing. PEDs are different since they are game-related. DUIs have nothing to do with the game but are a criminal thing. If we do suspend for DUI, what about other crimes committed by players. What about assault, domestic assault, fraud ala Fausto Carmona, speeding, etc. I’m not what the right answer is.

    Comment by Maverick Squad — April 18, 2013 @ 5:17 am

  31. If baseball punishes players for criminal offences that could constitute double jeopardy, being judged and punished twice for the same offence. Although if MLB got the MLBPA to agree they could possibly make DUI/domestic abuse/assault and battery detrimental to the public interests of the game in that players are expected to be positive role models for children and not bring the game and their team into disrepute.

    Comment by maqman — April 18, 2013 @ 10:56 am

  32. It absolutely could not constitute double jeopardy. The double jeopardy protections are protected by the Constitution but only apply to the state. They say nothing about an employer (MLB) punishing an employee for breaking the law. A private employer can punish an employee (or fire him, for that matter) for breaking the law regardless of whether or how the state punishes him.

Constitutional protections — at least most of them — only apply to the government and have nothing whatsoever to do with what happens on the job. The government can’t punish you for exercising free speech but your employer can if they want to, for example.
