  1. Depressing, hopefully in 5 years we will review AAs drafts and be bragging about the annual influx of young (cheap) talent from solid drafting.

  2. I know this is exceptionally nitpicky, but if I’m not mistaken, Arencibia was just a 1st round pick, not a supplemental first round pick. The Jays had two first round picks that year (2007) when they drafted Arencibia and Ahrens.

  3. What a difference a couple of years can make. I know BP thought the Jays had the best draft in 07 ( I’m pretty sure they weren’t the only group that was high on the Jays draft that year. So far only Rzep and Cecil have had any success.

This next statement is just a gut statement, however, I feel like the Jays farm system has suffered from a lack of ability to develop players as much as it has from the inability to properly scout players. Or, culminate those two facts and maybe the Jays lack the ability to draft talented guys who can be developed due to makeup issues or otherwise. Again, I have no proof for this statement, just an observable “feel”.
