  1. What does it say about the quality and depth of talent in a system when a guy like Tanner Scheppers doesn’t even get a mention?

  2. He’s a part of it, for sure. I didn’t set out to mention every guy in each system, but I think Scheppers is one of those hard-throwers that needs to learn a bit about repeating his delivery, and should blossom into a dangerous asset for Texas.

  3. Thanks, Bryan. My comment was not a criticism of the article – i was just noting the remarkable depth of the system. Scheppers would be the #1 or 2 prospect in several systems, I think.

  4. Don’t forget Mitch Moreland, Max Ramirez, Jurickson Profar (son of Judeska and Chesmond), and pitchers, Wilmer Font, Kasey Kiker (love a pitcher with lots of K’s in his name), Moscoso, Matt Harrison (who made the rotation this year and is only 24), and a whole host of others like Blake Beavan, Danny Gutierrez, Neil Ramirez, Michael Kirkman, etc, etc, etc,…..

There aren’t that many great position player prospects on the team (guys like Engel Beltre and Marcus Lemon have disappointed), but OMFG there are a lot of pitchers. Something like 20 or 30 very good pitching prospects in one system at one time!

Its a great time to be a fan of the Rangers . (and that’s not counting getting to fire the owner )

  5. “Nelson Cruz fits into this discussion after his 2009 breakout, and he certainly is who we thought he was: a lot of power, a solid corner glove, and not a lot else.”

He went 20-24 on the basepaths, and with a lot of power, a good glove in the COF spot, some good speed on the basepaths, and a solid OBP, what else is really missing here?
