  1. Poor John Lannan. this was basically a worst case scenario for him to start his season against.

  2. Look at Lannan’s reverse splits. Look at his HR/9 from 2009. One problem Lannan has against the phillies is that the line up is stacked with lefties. His home run rate (HR/9) in 2009 versus righties was one fewer per 9 IP than it was versus lefties (.73 v. 1.72). For his career, it is about 1/2. There’s is an observation that the RF stands in Nats Park is easier to reach than left. By stacking rightes against him in Nats Park, most teams play to his strengths. But the Phillies go with their regular lefties and kill him.

  3. The Phils have only had 3 left handed hitters against him in almost all of the games. With the switch hitters the Phils have 5 right handers against him.
