  1. I’ve been really surprised by Dietrich’s lack of press this year. Perfect Game actually downgraded his draft stock from where it had been at the beginning of the year in its most recent update, despite his new-found power. I still think that with the shortage of college bats this year he goes at least in the supplemental round if not late-first round.

  2. Dietrich’s 2009 power numbers look even worse when you remember that three of his nine homers came in the series against Presbyterian. He’s alleged to have an improved approach, and gets marks for hustlet and makeup, but his star has definitely fallen.

  3. But I wonder why it has fallen? For three years, he’s played every single game for a competitive ACC school, and he’s hit very well. Yes, his sophomore and Cape power numbers leave some concern, but is there really no belief he can be a high OBP second baseman? Isn’t Jeff Baker a real possibility? I would think in a draft like this, than there is real value in that.
