  1. The NERD score certainly looks like it’s in the early stages, but I can really see the potential in it. However, as boring as Ross Ohlendorf is, he did go to Princeton and has a website dedicated to cows (or horses, does it really matter?), I’d say he’s a nerd.

  2. Duly noted. Alma mater is definitely a consideration. How to quantify, though? US News and World Report rankings?

  3. I am very surprised this has been posted on a night when Colby Lewis isn’t pitching. I demand more Colby Lewis love in this post.

  4. You have GOT to come up with something that N.E.R.D. can stand for, even if it really doesn’t stand for anything.

You know, sort of like ZiPS.

  7. my humble suggestions: (1) per the conversation last week, i think nerd score should include a cool nickname quotient and (2) i’d like to see an “el guapo” (rich garces) matchup (e.g. the two pitchers with the highest combined weight) and a rollie fingers matchup (best facial hair).

  8. Do you mean “El Gordo,” not “El Guapo”?

    Comment by Bryz — June 4, 2010 @ 4:56 pm

  9. nope, i meant “el guapo” (oscar wilde was only partially right: “sarcasm IS the lowest form of wit” … but it is also highest form of intelligence).

behold mr. bobble belly himself: Rich “el guapo” Garces in all of his wiggly, jiggly, glory! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Garc%C3%A9s

  11. Ah, I never knew that was his nickname.

  12. If only ‘El Guapo’ and ‘The Big Sweat’ (Dennys Reyes), could pitch in the same game at the same time.

  13. N.E.R.D. = Nonpareil Equation of Remarkable Domination?

Doesn’t make any sense, but it rhymes, dagnabit.

  14. Got to imagine Ublado would have a higher NERD score if GB% is incorporated.

    Comment by Sumajestad — June 6, 2010 @ 1:50 am

  15. Derrr, looked up the formula for NERD. Never mind. But maybe Swinging strikes and Strike percentage make NERD work in the favor of high K/BB guys. But probably not.

  16. I’m pretty sure his nickname was “El Guapo”, given ironically.

  17. to theDAWG: come on man, we liberal arts junkies don’t count as nerds?
