  1. Fotenot’s supposed defensive superiority to Pablo’s hasn’t been evident and in general isn’t great enough to make up for his lack of a bat. UZR sees Pablo as average this year, which is somewhat hard to believe after watching him. Even then id rather have Pablo’s average-ish bat in the lineup over Fotenot’s not so stellar defense and near complete lack of a bat; Pablo’s upside is just too much above Fotenot on his best day to have him sitting.

  2. The Giants benching Sandoval has less to do with defense and more to do with Pablo’s horrendous .208/.289/.269 split w/RISP and 26 GIDP. Whether that’s a legitimate reason is up to you (I don’t think so).

  3. Fontenot, Sandoval, Renteria, Rowand, whatever – they’re all lousy so Bochy may as well just mix it up….

  4. They’re not lousy, just mediocre. It’s a distinction I didn’t often bother making until last season, but 2009 Giants’ offense made me very sensitive to the difference between mediocre and lousy. It’s one thing to know it academically, it’s another to experience it on a daily basis.
