  1. I would love to see the Rays take a shot at Manny. They really have nothing to lose.

  2. Do we have a metric for baggage?

  3. Any possibility of Manny to Seattle?

  4. Come on back to Cleveland, Manny. We’ll try some ridiculous DH platooning or something.

  5. Manny lives in Miami, too, so maybe that makes TB look more appealing to him

  6. Keith Law just received a carrier pigeon from Buster Olney saying a Toronto deal is imminent.

  7. Awesome nickname, bringing back the old school N64 Goldeneye. I like it.

  8. Baron Samedi is actually a Haitian Voodoo god known for his fondness for tobacco and rum, but I first learned about him from Goldeneye.

  9. GOLDENEYE. I knew I had heard that name before.

  10. Manny back in the AL east… can’t get rid of him!

  11. do the tigers know what they’re doing at DH yet? they usually have some money to throw around.

    Comment by phoenix — November 16, 2010 @ 1:53 pm

  12. Tigers will probably spend more money on a more reliable DH than Manny. I might be wrong but I think they were going to make a run at Adam Dunn (if he would accept being a DH) or Victor Martinez.

  13. who is DH’ing for angels next year? was matsui re-signed?

  14. Even Boras can’t spin 2 extra base hits in 88 plate appearances in Chicago favorably.

    Comment by MikeS — November 16, 2010 @ 2:05 pm

  15. I think Boras understands Safeco’s park effects for right-handed hitters. If he wants Manny to re-establish value on a 1-year deal, I doubt he’ll let him play half his games in a home park that neutralizes one of his greatest skills.

    Comment by JH — November 16, 2010 @ 2:06 pm

  16. There will be more interest in Manny than many of you believe.

He’ll have his choice of suitors in the AL.

He’ll even get close to what he wants contract-wise.

The “threat” of his having a bounce-back year is too much for teams to pass up.

    Comment by DIVISION — November 16, 2010 @ 2:14 pm

  17. It will probably look a lot like Thome’s contract last year.

    Comment by mockcarr — November 16, 2010 @ 2:28 pm

  18. The fans/media talk a lot about baggage. I’m not sure we/they really know what we’re/they’re talking about.

Fans can tolerate a lot of crap, for a winning team (fortunately/unfortunately depending on your perspective).

I like the idea of Rays signing him. There’s a lot of storylines there. Plus he can mentor BJ Upton on the values of hustle and focus. har har. *

    * That really is a joke. Pujols never runs out a ground ball either, and I don’t care. Stay healthy Albert.

  19. I thought that was Jobu?

  20. Yeah but can Baron Samedi help you hit a curveball?

  21. “If Manny is willing to take the $5 million. . . ”

More like if Boras is willing to take the $5million

  22. not just in a video game he was also one of the villians in Live and Let Die

    Comment by FG — November 16, 2010 @ 6:24 pm

  23. Manny’s been seen in Toronto numerous times now, and the possibility of him being signed has been buzzing around the Jays blogosphere for a little while now. They’ve got the money, and if Lind’s going to be playing first next year, they’ve got no clear-cut DH, and Toronto is a pretty solid place for power-hitters, so that shouldn’t scare Boras off.

    Comment by Theo — November 16, 2010 @ 9:07 pm

  24. Manny would make sense for the Blue Jays and Rays. Both of these teams need someone who puts fans in the seats. He will be motivated in a contract year, and should stay healthy if he does not play the field, and he would easily be worth 5-6 million plus incentives.

    Comment by pft — November 16, 2010 @ 10:54 pm

  25. Manny was not healthy after coming off the DL, so that explains his performance in Chicago.

    Comment by pft — November 16, 2010 @ 10:56 pm

  26. This is what I’d like to know. That immediately stood out to me in the article as well.

    Comment by Larry Smith Jr. — November 17, 2010 @ 2:59 am

  27. I was wondering how Boras was going to approach a new Manny contract. He always has a new trick up his sleeve, and this time he’s playing the honesty card. Go figure!
