Looking forward to getting the Dude back, though I don’t think we’ll even see him pick up a ball until July. He didn’t get the surgery until mid-May 2010, despite seemingly knowing of the injury as early as November 2009. I imagine an injury like this is scary enough, and that surgery only makes it more daunting, but to think that rehab and lack of use would effectively heal the injury was a decision that is pretty questionable in hindsight. If he had had the surgery in January, as Joaquin Benoit had in the previous year with his rotator cuff surgery, then perhaps he would have been healed and ready to go this upcoming spring training. It was a gamble to forgo surgery last year, and clearly it didn’t work out. I wish Pizzle the best of luck this year, but I don’t expect him to contribute much until 2012.
