  1. I just have to point out that all of the pitchers mentioned in this piece are former Orioles. Wieters, Tillman, and Matusz can’t come soon enough!

  2. Could steroids, or the lack thereof, be a reason for a magical 4-6 MPH drop in velocity? Just a thought.

  3. It looks like the Orioles gave up on the Adam Eaton experiment, too.

Almost certainly not. It isn’t as if Cabrera’s legs suddenly atrophied. It sounds to me like Cabrera’s shoulder has been quietly disintegrating.

  5. His miserable velocity dip was matched by appalling control. He snapped off I think four wild pitches in one game against the cards. Could his problem be more esoteric than a bad labrum – maybe a nerve problem in his arm?

  6. Perhaps he is just much older than he has reported? Fellow Dominican Miguel Tejada lied about his age and, of course, Esmailian Gonzales. We know the Venezuelan Vlad Guerrero is a part of this club, as well. I’m sure that Pujols isn’t lying about his age, though. Despite the fact that he looked, sounded, and hit like a much older player in high school. I’m sure he’s just a special case. I can certainly understand the motivation. If I was a 20 year old hitter or pitcher in a third world country and knew I could get millions and escape my dirt farm if I could fool people into thinking I was 16, I’d do it. Then, once I had the millions, I would be able to afford to take HGH and I could stay young longer and no one would ever know my true age.
