Not even close to being the worst pitcher in the Majors over the stretch. Certainly not great, even below average, but aside from the coincidence involving a stat that has some very odd and specific parameters, he’s not at all exceptional in any fashion. Joe Posnaski wrote a brilliant piece involving how kooky Wins sound when you describe the definition of the stat rather than just calling it by name.
“What pitcher has made the most consecutive starts without pitching at least five innings and exiting with his team in the lead in a game that the team ends up winning (without ever relinquishing the lead after his departure*”)?
Good for Jo-Jo. He’s probably caught a lot of grief for this on sports radio and casual sports discussion, but it’s nice that he finally fulfilled the extensive criteria for earning a win in the Majors-excluding of course his wins earned while in AAA over that span.
