  3. The actual draft, not this virtual room

  4. Hah, you read my thought process exactly. I was like…”wtf? ohhhh on the TV”

  5. I wish the studio had real grass.

    Comment by rk — June 9, 2009 @ 5:07 pm

  6. OK… so the draft starting at 3 was a lie.

    Comment by kenshin — June 9, 2009 @ 5:07 pm

  7. Couldn’t agree more on the Callis comment Dave.

    Comment by Big Oil — June 9, 2009 @ 5:07 pm

  8. why did the keep mentioning studio 42? Are they trying to build a brand?

    Comment by kenshin — June 9, 2009 @ 5:09 pm

  9. Tony Sanchez is expected to go to the Pirates at #4. As an Mariner fan, I was upset when I saw the mock draft with the Mariners taking Sanchez at #27.

  11. Feel the excitement! Bud Selig! Woooooo

    Comment by rk — June 9, 2009 @ 5:10 pm

  12. If Bowden were still in charge, he’d use all of the 5 minutes allotted.

    Comment by Big Oil — June 9, 2009 @ 5:12 pm

  13. Do you think Selig instructed the Nationals to wait for the full 5minutes to facilitate TV coverage?

    Comment by kenshin — June 9, 2009 @ 5:13 pm

  14. Funny slip by McDonald

    Comment by Big Oil — June 9, 2009 @ 5:14 pm

  15. That wouldn’t surprise me at all. It’s all about building up tension til the pick, even if it is mostly known already.

    Comment by rk — June 9, 2009 @ 5:15 pm

  16. My brother and I went to the 2001 All-Star Game. We were having a blast until Bud Selig brought the game to a screaming halt with his poor public speaking and idiot timing. He needs to stay far, far away from the TV.

Plus, the man is hated in Seattle for stealing the Pilots. Dude, you’d think he’d remember that.

  17. this straight to the majors talk is inanity.

    Comment by kenshin — June 9, 2009 @ 5:17 pm

  18. You talking about Strasburg? They probably want him to pitch some MLB innings before his arm falls off.

    Comment by R M — June 9, 2009 @ 5:24 pm

  19. Plus, Insanity is nothing new to the Nationals front office.

    Comment by R M — June 9, 2009 @ 5:24 pm

  20. dear god i hate harold reynolds.

i remember when he said that the yankees weren’t very good. they’re like 15 games over .500 since that point.

  22. When Bud didn’t appear, was it wrong of me to hope he’d been kidnapped?

    No.

  23. has Harold ever met a pick he didn’t like?

    Comment by kenshin — June 9, 2009 @ 5:28 pm

  25. “the Padres are one of the most boring teams in baseball to watch.”

That made me laugh out loud.

    Comment by bikozu — June 9, 2009 @ 5:32 pm

  26. I don’t understand why Harold thinks it’s an advantage to play outside.

    Comment by kenshin — June 9, 2009 @ 5:33 pm

  30. the benefit of televising this is that we might see zack wheeler shit himself on live TV

    Comment by big baby — June 9, 2009 @ 5:46 pm

  31. “Gutsy” and “Won’t strike out a lot” aren’t the things you’d want to hear as part of the first sentence of your profile as a pitcher with the 8th pick in the draft, are they?

    Comment by Big Oil — June 9, 2009 @ 5:52 pm

  32. Jacob Turner has more upside than all of the other pitchers taken so far? I assume that means besides Strasburg.

Keep up the great work, Dave!

    Comment by Torx — June 9, 2009 @ 5:59 pm

  33. Wow, 6 pitchers in the first 9 picks. 3 of them preps.

  34. Don’t **** this up, Colorado.

    Comment by Jason T — June 9, 2009 @ 6:03 pm

  35. Red Sox/Yankees game soonish, thanks for doing this Dave

    Comment by rk — June 9, 2009 @ 6:07 pm

  36. As a Blue Jays pitcher, Jenkins should see the bigs as a mid-rotation starter mixing five different pitches, and then after a season or more of effectiveness he’ll get hurt and need surgery.

  37. Angels pick another fish. Tim Salmon, anyone?

  39. I’m confused… Here, you say you’re not a fan of the pick of Franklin, but on USSM, you say you like the pick. Which is it?

    Comment by Clapper — June 9, 2009 @ 7:24 pm

  40. Oops. Strike that. I read “not” a fan here. Either you edited while you were commenting, or coding SharePoint all day has affected my ability to read.

    Comment by Clapper — June 9, 2009 @ 7:25 pm

  41. Did anybody know that this is the 2009 first year player draft? Bud hasn’t mentioned that on any of the picks yet.

    Comment by glassSheets — June 9, 2009 @ 7:27 pm

  42. It’s actually the 1999 first year player draft. Bud forgot what year it was 29 out of the last 30 picks.

    Comment by Think Blue Crew — June 9, 2009 @ 7:33 pm

  43. Dave: you like the Franklin pick over Washington for a middle infielder picked in the high 20s? Is that positional adjustment outweighing anything else?

    Comment by joser — June 9, 2009 @ 7:37 pm

  44. Harold appreciates you calling in

    Comment by glassSheets — June 9, 2009 @ 7:52 pm

  45. Thanks for the time and effort put into the draft. I truly enjoyed it. Not only was it one of the faster updating blogs, but also one of the most informative.

  46. Minor vs the wood bats = domination. Kid knows how to pitch. Will be a great addition to the team that won fourteen straight division titles.

    Comment by Braxton — June 10, 2009 @ 12:12 am

  47. According to Joe Jordan the O’s had Hobgood rated at #3 on their board. Strasburg, Ackley, Hobgood. He recently had both Hobgood and Wheeler in for a visit to Camden Yards and, I guess, that helped him make is final determination. Maybe what we saw in Wheeler’s interview gave us an idea of what put Hobgood over the top in Jordan’s mind. ;^)

If this is the guy Jordan liked best, than I’m a happy O’s fan.

  48. “As punishment, he ends up heading to Coors Field.”

This is one of the best things I’ve read all day. How much do you think he would have dropped his demands if he had know that he would fall to the Rockies?
