  1. re: Gallardo’s unearned runs

In the 1st inning Robert’s run was unearned because he reached on an error. Upton’s later run is unearned because, while he reached safely, the sac fly that scored him SHOULD have been the 3rd out … had Roberts been out in the first place several batter prior.

  2. It’s odd that someone built the Trop, a place to play baseball, as a place to deter all baseball from being played right.

  3. re: Beltran

Actually he was 3 for 3 , 2 2B, 2 BB – so your oddity is even odder.

  4. Still no labeling? Let me try and figure it out.

There are two charts, one of which is tracking odds of each team winning during the game. WPA is mentioned in the Moving the Needle bit. Googling WPA suggests that it’s win probability added, which suggests that the chart is tracking win expectancy?

Looking at Win Expectancy in the FG glossary mentions Tangotiger’s win expectancy tables. The first link is to The Hardball Times article on Win Probability, which links to Tangotiger.net, which points to “Win Expectancy and Leverage Index now on FanGraphs.com!”.

So these graphs come from the Scoreboard section of FanGraphs, which I hadn’t noticed until now. The Scoreboard version of these charts label the second chart as Leverage Index (Higher = Critical Situation), which is also in the glossary.

So, Win Expectancy and Leverage Index. That was a lot harder than it needed to be.

  5. I think it’s assumed that you should know this stuff, since the scoreboard is the best part of this site, and if you don’t load it up and follow it whenever you watch a game you are 86 years old.

  7. That lineup is scary good, and I don’t really think any hitter on Texas is having a great season given their talent, except Michael Young. If Hamilton starts hitting again like last year, they are going to blow the rest of the division away.

  10. But 47 of those innings were against Seattle and Oakland rather than actual major-league offenses.
