  1. Brendan Ryan would be a MONSTER if he got to face AL East pitching and hit in their parks all the time. *grin* He could be “Adrian-Lite”.

CLE – Carrera is just the latest victim of the “sun in my eyes while my shades are on my hat” scenario. It really is dumb. Either wear the damn shades or leave them in the dugout. Reminds me of all the guys I see in the stands wearing their cap backwards and using their hand to shade the sun out of their eyes. If only someone made a hat that had some sort of sun-shield or blocker attached to the front of it. Geez.

David DeJesus ends the game by lining into a double play, -.291 WPA.

Somebody should write an article on the best & worst double plays throughout baseball history.

  3. Stubbs hit that home run in the 9th off Linebrink, because Fredi Gonzalez refuses to bring in Kimbrel in the 9th in tie games on the road; he’s saving him for possible save chances that often don’t materialize. It’s obscene to pray that your poorer pitchers can hold the opposition scoreless so that your closer can pitch with a comfortable lead later.

I’m too lazy to look this up, but I’d bet that tie games have a tendency to end when the home team scores even a single run in the 9th. While I’m feeling lucky, I’ll go out on a limb and assert that most games that end in the 9th don’t continue into the 10th, 11th, etc. You know what guarantees your closer won’t get a save? Losing before he touches the ball.
