First of all, what has Belt done so far that has everyone in a lather? I’d play him ahead of Andres Torres and Aaron Rowand for sure. Huff is probably the better option down the stretch at 1B. When Beltran gets back, the OF should be Beltran, Schierholtz with possibly a platoon of Ross and Belt for the 3’rd spot, but that’s a close call. Ross might be better down the stretch.
What a lot of people are either forgetting or never noticed is that Belt has huge holes in his swing on the inside corner both high and low. Pitchers who have good scouting reports that stuff they can put in those spots don’t really have too much trouble with him.
