  1. “Jose Reyes is clearly the prize of the shortstop market, if not the entire free agent class this offseason.”

    Really? Pujols…

  2. Good catch. Didn’t word it the way I meant to. Thanks!

  3. So who do you think ends up playing SS for the Twins next year. All I know now is that somehow Casilla will get traded for three oak bats and then hit 0.290/0.370/0.450 next year.

  4. “oak bats”

That is hilarious, intentional or not

  5. Why don’t I see Yuni at the top of this list???

  6. Your screen is upside-down.

  7. Reyes’ deal won’t approach Tulo as far as total value (nor should it), and if it does, it will not be because he “deserves” to be paid more, though you could say Reyes deserves to be paid more and Tulo deserves to be paid even more than that.

I didn’t read your statement as saying Reyes is the most valuable SS, but some might.

  8. My notion is Clint Barmes or Alex Gonzalez, or perhaps Ramon Santiago. #yawn

  9. Good to note.

  10. I don’t care what your supposed “metrics” have to say, he’s a SS you want starting every day in playoff series!

  11. I really hope someone signs Alex Gonzalez and it is NOT the Braves. They can’t carry his pathetic bat in their lineup any longer. I hope they go for Barmes to bridge the gap to Pastornicky. Let someone else have Alex “K or Double-Play” Gonzalez.

  12. I mean anytime you can get the worst shortstop in the league to start all six of the games in your franchise’s most important series in 30 years, you HAVE to do it. Don’t you?

  13. I have to think that Jimmy Rollins’ assocation with the Phillies’ run over the past however many years–don’t forget that he is the guy considered by many Phillies to have played the most important role in changing that organization’s institutional culture–and the fact that he is a shortstop with an MVP under his belt who often wins Gold Gloves (whether he deserves them or not is kind of beside the point) means that he gets considerably more money than he really has any business getting. Particularly since the Phillies can most likely be expected to (somewhat irrationally/desperately) bid up his price, as they have nobody around to replace him.

Rollins is a good bet to be the most overpaid free agent this offseason, in other words. Remember Derek Jeter last offseason? I will be shocked if he gets anything less than four years, $60 mil. My guess is that he ends up getting bid up to closer to four years, $70 mil. Phillies fans should be concerned that management grossly overpays for Rollins and then gives Aramis Ramirez a much larger contract than he really deserves, given his age and injury risk. As if Philly needs yet another expensive, aging, injury-prone infielder on the roster. Pat Gillick, we hardly knew ye!

  14. I like Furcal, 2 year $7 mil with incentives based on games played, SB’s an xbh’s, or Counsell 1 year $1 mil with $500 k incentives, or Cabrera at 2nd with Casilla at SS

  15. I’ve watched that bouncer up the middle by Allen Craig about 5 times and each time I think……. I think I could’ve had that, and a major leaguer didn’t even try.

  16. Furcal probably isn’t going for that contract…
