  2. great read. Will be interesting this season to see if Neil Walker’s defense at 2B improves AGAIN like it did last year dramatically. We were all hoping it would because his rookie season was the first time he ever played 2B. Another 10+ game improvement wouldn’t be out of the question for the 2012 Buccos if these key 4 players improve

  3. This is such a fantastic series. I can’t stand Hurdle as a manager, but I think getting scouting reports from managers gives a lot of insight into how they operate. Hurdle barely mentioned physical attributes, which is both very interesting and I think telling about his decision making process (without going into detail, because I don’t think he deserves to be bashed). I think from a projection standpoint, one can take into account a detailed scouting report of a star-caliber player like McCutchen and combine that with scouting reports from outsiders to feel more confident about some of the more optimistic projections. Thanks for this.

  4. Great read, thanks for this. I’m actually amazed Hurdle made it a full two sentences before bringing up Walker’s “ability to hunt RBI”…sigh.

  5. What’s his report on Chris Iannetta? For the love of god, what was so bad about Chris Iannetta?

  9. I think Hurdle’s work with Alvarez this season will be the most important individual project he’s ever undertaken as manager. Alvarez has the upside to be an elite hitter, but his ceiling–as we saw last year–is stunningly horrible. I hope Hurdle helps him responds to the adjustments the rest of the league made against him last season.
