  4. In his start against Rice, Appel actually gave up 2 runs in the 1st inning before cruising. He struck out the side in the 9th, and and also hit 95 on the stadium radar gun in that inning. So I guess you could say he got stronger as the game went on.

  5. fwiw, Stanford won that game on a 2-run walk off homerun in the 10th. I was there, Appel could have definitely pitched the 10th. I agree with what he’s recounting, that he looked his strongest in the 8th and 9th.

  7. Mooneyham is the top arm on that squad and will have a better pro career than Appel.
