  1. Orioles have a lot of injuries: Matt Lindstrom, last season’s best starter Zach Britton, Brian Roberts, Mark Reynolds. It’s not the Red Sox mash list, but it’s something. Big difference is that two of those weren’t healthy on opening day.

    Also, it’s worth noting that this is Markakis’ first trip to the DL in his career.

  4. Guys just have to stop doing that – cupping the knob in their palm. It might give them a little more leverage, but it’s just not worth the injury risk. Get a longer bat!

    Either that or have the hamate bones removed from the bottom hand once they’re in organized ball, kind of like a pre-emptive TJ surgery for pitchers.

  6. Markakis typically chokes up slightly on his bat. Very rarely does he have his hands low.
