  1. What about pitchers being converted to position players, such as Arizona’s Micah Owings?

  2. Whoops, Owings is now playing in the Padre organization

  3. Jason Lane signed on with the independent Sugar Land Skeeters, with whom he just won Atlantic League July Pitcher of the Month: http://www.sugarlandskeeters.com/news.cfm?newsID=271

  4. For what it’s worth, Lane is playing independent ball for the Sugar Land Skeeters and, at 35, probably won’t get more opportunities in major league organizations.

  5. Might as well include Strasburg. .410 wOBA, 160 wRC, .953 OPS.

Yea, its only in 41 MLB at bats. But he has accumulated more WAR this year than his teammates Bernadina, Werth, Ramos, Lombardozzi, Morse, Flores and Ankiel.

  6. Well I guess that teaches me to read the article before posting. Duly noted.

  7. you can include 2010 second round pick Stetson Allie in this category. of course it’s way too early to pass judgment on his hitting ability, but Allie’s numbers to date (a slash line of .215/.317/.331) don’t exactly inspire confidence:

  8. I believe former Padres catcher Ben Davis went through a stint in minor league ball as a pitcher as well.

  9. Do shorter players draw more walks than taller players?

  10. What about Jacob deGrom? I know he isn’t a convert right away this season but he is new to the position this year after Tommy John surgery.

  11. Where do you get your minor league batted ball data?

  14. Not sure where they pulled the data from, but Minor League Central is generally the go-to place.

  18. I don’t know why, but I just love these kinda players.

Almost as much as pitchers who can throw left handed AND right handed.
