  1. Wasn’t Morrow’s 17K game against the Rays? Isn’t that the kind of non-predictive information that goes into making NERD the mercurial and misleading stat we love?

  3. And that, friends, is the genius of NERD: it quantifies the excitement that leads to your sentiments as 9.

  4. I’d say for a game that features Verlander, Sale, Adam Dunn, Prince Fielder, Jim Leyland, A. J. Pierzynski, and possibly Hawk Harrelson, 9 is the absolute low-end.

Unless of course you’re watching the Tigers feed, Dunn, Pierzynski, and Prince have the day off and both pitchers go like 6ip with 3ER and 5-7 ks….

  5. Wainwright “has resumed almost precisely the same level of excellence that he demonstrated in the two years before his Tommy John surgery.”

Maybe he is at that level now, but early in the season, he had more mistake pitches which resulted in a bloated ERA compared to his FIP.

  6. Oh, no, Carson! We have to go 2 days without Daily Notes just because you shirk your duties to go to some stupid wedding?
    Talk about distorted values!
