Contract Crowdsourcing 2013-14: Roberto Hernandez

Free agency begins five days after the end of the World Series. As in other recent offseasons, FanGraphs is once again facilitating this offseason a contract-crowdsourcing project, the idea being to harness the wisdom of the crowds to the end of better understanding the 2013-14 free-agent market.

Note that, this year, in addition to asking readers to estimate the years/dollars each free agent is likely to receive, FanGraphs is also requesting that readers make note of how much they’d pay each free agent were they, themselves, actual GMs.

In this edition: Robert Hernandez.

Some relevant information regarding Hernandez:

  • Has averaged 118.0 IP and 0.3 WAR over last three seasons.
  • Has averaged 0.4 WAR per 180 IP over last three seasons.
  • Recorded a 0.2 WAR in 151.0 IP in 2013.
  • Is entering his age-33 season.

I think this guy is a great reclamation project. He had decent peripheral numbers and bad luck in 2013.

I say $1m only because I was under the impression that players who signed minor league contracts under the new CBA who had 6 or more years of service time were guaranteed that if they made the Opening Day roster. I could have sworn it was under XX-B, but now can’t find where I read that. In any case, I highly doubt Fausto Carmona is anything but an NRI this year.
