    Comment From Dave
“The Diamondbacks will now try to package shortstop Nick Ahmed and a pitching prospect in a trade for the Tigers’ Rick Porcello” – mlbtraderumors. Why would anyone want Porcello?”

    ERA/W-L are misleading my friend.

Rick Porcello’s 24, has been durable, and his underlying stats (K/9, BB/9, HR/9, GB%, and therefore FIP/xFIP) are trending in the right direction. His GB rates are in good shape, but the defense tasked with fielding them is fat, slow and playing out of position.

If you put him in front of a decent defense, his numbers will improve, and with the GB rates being what they are he is less prone to suffer harshly from the move to Chase Field than others. Considering what seems to be a relatively low price of entry, I would say he would be worth it for almost every team.

The Braves would not be the best team to work out a sign and trade. The best team would be the team with the lowest draft pick they would lose, like the Nationals (who’ve already lost their 1st pick). However, swinging a deal outside of the division, such as with the Angels (who’ve also lost their #1 already) seems more likely.
