I don’t think Carson was analyzing all Dave Cameron when he brought up the lefty strike a few minutes after Dave just mentioned it.

Yeah, that was weird. It’s like Carson had his speaking points and he was going to stick to them no matter who got to them first.

I’d like to encourage Dave to get a better microphone as while I love his analysis (on FG, USSM, ESPN, Twitter, and the occasional radio/TV spot) it can be difficult to make out what he says here sometimes.

Given Fangraphs Audio is provided for free I realize I’m not contributing too much to Fangraphs bottom line from the podcast pages I click to listen that generate ads. However, I imagine for other listeners like me the low audio quality hinders their appreciation of the show, potentially lowers the number of listeners from which FG could monetize if D. Appelman adds audio advertisements, and potentially holds back the brand image of FG(maybe a stretch).

Too be clear I’m grateful for Carson and Dave’s near weekly conversations on all things baseball, but I do think they could be better appreciated with a simple fix, a new better microphone, and as proponents for utility maximization this is something Carson and Dave could get behind. I’ve heard good things about the Blue Yeti Mic from other podcasters though I have no direct experience with it, I’d like to suggest that other FG readers submit their recommendations (I’m not sure a poll would be helpful as Dave’s potential decision might be based on cost or other factors more than just audience opinion on what’s “best” and ultimately I hope Dave wouldn’t be pressured to get a mic that was too expensive or otherwise not desirable by him).

I believe this was brought up before on a previous podcast in 2012 and it wasn’t convenient for Dave to get a non-internal microphone, but I believe this change for reasons explained above would benefit the podcast and the site, so I hope you all consider it. If other readers have suggestions of mics please post them for everyone’s benefit. I’ll continue posting this on future installments of Dave’s show, and more closely to the release time of the podcast to get other readers opinions.

Again, thanks to you both of you for doing the show and if you read this, your time.
