I hope Mr. Shannon really does come here to listen and winds up wandering into Perry podcast/NotGraphs territory.

    A bizarre Shannonism from 200X I heard while driving…

“Two on, Two out. Step right up, guess your weight within five pounds… win a baby doll.”

Glad you did this interview Carson. I first got into baseball when I was eighteen on May 2, 2005. Cardinals scored 7 in the top of the ninth to come back and beat the Reds 10-9. Mike Shannon let out genuine belly laughs during the comeback. He was just having so much fun. Since then, I try to listen to as many games as I can.

He knows absolutely nothing about advanced metrics, but I don’t listen to Mike Shannon for that sort of analysis anyway. I listen to him to have fun, and he provides that.

That was a classic game and a classic broadcast…I remember driving with the game on the radio and the Reds have the bases loaded with Shannon cautioning “BEEEE Careful”…such a wild game…2-1 Cards heading into the bottom of the 6th, Reds get 4 in the 6th and the 8th, Cards get 7 in the 9th with Danny Graves throwing BP.

Also, did anyone happen to listen to the Cardinals game on Sunday to see if he said anything about Fangraphs?

  7. Pseu says:

The “to all you mothers out there, happy birthday” one has been attributed, by my illustrious father, from at least 2.5 decades ago and continuing to This Present Day, to the (perhaps) even more illustrious Ralph Kiner.

  8. This was adorable. I could listen to an hour of Carson reading Shannonisms and Mike saying “No, not me.”
