In a 7 game series would you rather have the Yankees or the Blue Jays rotation?

It will greatly depend on health. Dickey, Morrow, Johnson and Beurhle vs. Sabathia, Kuroda, Pettitte and Hughes/Nova could go either way. But Johnson and Morrow are pretty injury prone and Pettitte and Kuroda are getting old, so there are a lot of moving parts.

Can you explain more on the Morse to the Mariners idea? You noted on USSM that the Mariners already have a glut of 1B/DH types — Smoak, Morales, Ibanez and whichever of Jaso/Montero isn’t catching. And said here that Morse doesn’t have much trade value.

Even if Morse plays LF part time and Smoak goes to AAA, you have 2.5-3 guys for 2 spots. And do you want to “give up” on Smoak to give Mike Morse?

    Dave Cameron:
The Twins got a lot worse without really improving their long term future.

Anyone care to interpret this? The Twins got a lot worse on their currently-ready outfield depth chart by trading Span and Revere. I think it’s pretty clear that their future pitching got at least somewhat better, if you assume that Worley can hold down a #3-5 spot for a few years and at least one of Meyer/May doesn’t tank. It’s not a huge improvement but it was a necessary one. In the two areas where they needed the most improvement for the immediate term, starting P and IF, it seems like they tread(ed) water at worst, by not adding any IF so far and adding mediocre-to-bad or injury-prone starters to their collection of the same.

Would add too that even if their current situation got worse with two big trades to weaken the outfield, that was the area where a current loss would have the least impact down the road.

Dave, it seemed like you seemed to get annoyed as this chat went on. One guy asked why you weren’t as high on Trevor Bauer as others, and you said “I think throwing strikes is important.” I don’t think it’s a bad question, and while your answer gets at the essence of your answer, it implies that the guy asking the question (and most prospect analysts) is stupid for not recognizing how big of a problem Bauer’s control issues are. There were a few other answers in which you seemed to be unnecessarily flippant with someone’s answer. It hasn’t seemed like you’ve been like that in a while.
