The time value of money applies to people, as well as teams. No reason to believe that the delta of the Pirates’s time value of money compared to those two individuals (Appel/Boras) is > 0. Depending on the marginal utility of those dollars, actually, the Pirates may have leverage in the time-value discussion.
This is a nitpick, but in regards to HR/FB% and that no player puts up over 25% with any consistency: Ryan Howard was 35%, 39%, 31% and 31% for three and a half years. Easy to see how he became over-rated.
