FanGraphs New York Meetup
We had so much fun hanging out in San Francisco that we thought we’d do it again. This time, we’re bringing together Mets and Yankees (and, really, any baseball) fans for one of the last days they can all enjoy baseball — together.
And, sure, we’ll leave some football on one of the televisions, okay.
On Sunday, September 25th, we’ll blow the horn for FanGraphs East and announce happy hour drinks and our own private space for our particular brand of nerdery. Come to Amity Hall any time after one PM eastern, and we’ll be hanging out, talking baseball and enjoying happy hour prices. And there will be a ton of togetherness because really how much can you hate a Mets fan right now. Oh! Also, come downstairs. We’ve got the downstairs bar.
And this is who will be hanging out:
David Appelman, FanGraphs Dark Overlord, so dark
Mike Podhorzer, Serious about (fantasy) baseball, RotoGraphs
Eno Sarris, Fan of Graphs, Fan, Not and Roto
Niv Shah, ottoneu founder and Cleveland Midges fan
Craig Glaser, Bloomberg Sports’ goggled superhero and Mets fan
Amanda Rykoff, espnW contributor, beer lover and Yankees fan
James Kannengeiser, professional curmudgeon and Amazin Avenue writer
Chris McShane, Amazin Avenue backbone, ready to dance
Eric Simon, Amazin Avenue head honcho guy, generally nice dude
Mike Axisa, aka “Mike from RAB, FanGraphs & Trade Rumors,” you know, just Mike
Ben Kabak, River Avenue Blues!
Joe Pawlikowski, music lover, FanGraphs escapee and River Avenue Blueser
So I’m sure there will be some enjoyable conversations. Exciting even.
If you are under 21 years old, you may come to the event, but you’ll have to check in with me. The bar may want you to wear a bracelet to identify you. Annoying, but at least you’ll get to hang out and have burgers and sodas.
Any reference to Appleman as the Dark Overlord gets an automatic laugh from me.
Will they be broadcasting the Mets/Phils or Yanks/Sawx game?
(and by “game”, I mean real time output of WPA spreadsheet)
I’ve been told we have three televisions, so I’m thinking both New York baseball games and the football Giants at 1pm, open season at 4pm.
I went last year and was not impressed. The best part was the free tshirt. A bunch of baseball nerds in a room trying to be funny. If they were to do what they do best and come up with some new analysis on players and fantasy, maybe it would be worth shelling the money for.
I’m pretty sure this will be worth shelling out no money for.
I’m with Jeff…perhaps you could pass the hat and get that man some cab fare to make it worth his while.

i prefer to attend events with negative cover charges
This is a meetup that costs $0. I hope that’s not too much for ya, Jeff.
i am excited for absolutely no reason other than to see the second avenue sagas guy.
I am legitimately disappointed I won’t be able to check it out. Hope everyone has a great time.
I’ll be there!
Midges, eh? Is that like the local roller derby team?
What time will you guys be there until?
I’ll keep us going until the 4pm games are done at least.
Won’t be able to make it. I’ll be in Pittsburgh for the Baseball Industry Network event on Saturday and my flight doesn’t get into JFK until 4.
Is it 21+? (Awkwardly young college student here)
This is a great question. Under 21-year-olds are allowed, but they have to check in with me. Look for the big head of curls.
I suppose I will be there. Should there be a sign up? Is capacity an expected issue?
We have our own space downstairs and we can carve out a secondary space upstairs if we overflow. Look forward to talking baseball with you!
yes i will be there,
who will be dooing jagermister shots with me lol
/crosses fingers for “oh frenchy” encore.
Moneyball movie and fangraphs meetup in the same weekend. As CannonFodder would say, #SABRPorn.
The Mike Akisa?
Super exiting, but before joining you all I might have to lurk at the bar for a year or so….
Cheers!
They’ve got a great beer selection there. Oddly enough, I was just there for a lunchbeer today.
If I were home, I would go to this, but sadly I am not. Why can’t you come down to Nashville? It easily has the same number of nerdy baseball fans to draw from as New York.
