I’m not sure what the definition of a “second division starter” is, so it’s hard to say whether I agree with this assessment of Brown or not.

I’ve always said he reminds me of Dan Gladden with better D. Now, a Dan Gladden who can give you plus D in CF is going to be a 3-4 WAR player which really ain’t at all bad for a #24 draft pick.

A second-division starter is actually not a bad outcome for a 24th overall pick. Looking at 24th overall picks (link) the only two that have ever accumulated over 24 baseball-ref WAR are Rondell White and Alex Fernandez, though Chad Billingsley will probably get there. Only six 24th overall picks (since the draft began in 1965) have at least 3.0 bbRef WAR, though Brian Bogusevic will probably make it.

Isn’t wRC+ relative to league average (the specific league the player is in) as well? I always assumed it was.
