How much would a hitter be worth, who has, say, a mediocre .200 batting average, but from whom every hit was a home run. This is a theoretical construct, but we may be finding out with A Rod. Toronto’s Travis Snider may be another case in point.

Great article, Eric – thanks. I hadn’t been following him closely yet either, but I saw his AVG listed a few places and assumed he may be struggling… apparently not.

Something tells me that perhaps A-rod is on a mission to prove he has natural power, and is thus really focusing on that aspect of his game. But of course that’s pure speculation.

Teixeira was running a wonky line (not quite as wonky, granted) like this for most of the early season. It doesn’t seem at all unusual for a power hitter to get horrendous luck for a week or two and end up with these kinds of numbers. Maybe I’m wrong…

Hey, A-Rod actually got a non-true outcome (what do we call that, anyway?) tonight! Of course, he has a homer and a strikeout to go with that double, but apparently it’s the double that’s noteworthy.
