I'm not too familiar with it, but it sounds like it has the same fundamentals as WPA, in that it is situational and it reflects how much win probability is added with every pitch thrown. When looking for the most productive players, you don't tend to look at WPA, you look at WAR. So wouldn't that mean that like WPA, Pitch Type Values don't show who's the best? Isn’t the Pitch Type Value stat a bad measure of ‘who has the best fastball’? I think that Haren scrapping the slider vs. RHB and throwing the cutter to RHB has lead to the dramatic change in Haren's output from previous years. Thank you for this analysis.
