The ESPN-type analysts are liable to be a bit gunshy. In 2008 many of them picked the Mariners to contend, and it’s quite possible no one will ever be that wrong again (to paraphrase one observer). I expect very conservative predictions for 2009 (which, of course, will then be horribly wrong because this has been a pretty active off-season).

Seems to me like both the AL West and NL West are both overlooked divisions. I’m looking at perhaps three possible contenders for the AL West, and four for the NL West in ’09. Could get very interesting.

I read this on USSM and LL I believe. Zduriencik has done a good job so far, especially with outfield defense, something sorely overlooked by Bavasi.

I’ll agree and say that the AL West is going to be more competitive than most “mainstream” “analysts” on ESPN and other sites would like to admit.
