FYI - Franklin would have been this good in the role last year (mostly) except that his good friend Izzy wanted the job back that TLR kept thrusting Franklin into. It was well known Franklin felt horrible at taking Izzy's spot and was constantly looking over his shoulder...especially once Izzy came back off the DL.

The real secret to Franklin's success this year...pin-point accuracy. His control is everything for him. Without it, he's entirely hittable...but the same can be said of many pitchers (Carp and Waino on his own team at times included).

If Franklin can keep up his control all season, he is ABSOLUTELY this good. Need proof? Go back and look at his season as an 8th inning setup man 2 or 3 years ago for the Cards...that's where it started. Through the last few seasons, he's ALWAYS been THIS good...just not in THIS role. (with the exception of one or two short-lived hiccups as all players experience).

Don't forget...the pitcher every MLB team knew for a long time was Franklin as a starter. That guy was bad. Franklin as a Cards reliever has ALWAYS been this good. Franklin as a closer...well...we just committed to THAT role shift this year. He pitches like he always has for the Cards, then second half will defy projections.

Thanks for pointing that out. Not wanting to make excuses, by I had to help my wife deal with a screaming 3 week old and a screaming 2 year old last night. No sleep makes for wonky writing.
