Thanks for clarifying, that makes sense. I remember his heyday with the Sox when you saw that guy hulking, leaning over the plate and you knew that if they didn't walk him the ball was going to be pulverized somewhere. I'm glad I got to watch him when I was younger.

As a great man once said, luck is the residue of design. The design of Frank Thomas was not likely to produce a player who was exceptionally durable in his 30s.

No, I'm suggesting that if he hadn't been injured in 2001, 2004, 2005, and 2008, and he hit his pre-season projected home runs total in each of those years he would have something like 610-615 right now, not 521. Still perhaps a longshot for this year but if he was really healthy and surpassed the projections in each of those seasons which wouldn't have been tough given his skill he definitely could have been within reach this year.

"Heck, with a bit more luck on the injury front, Thomas could be in line to approach the Willie Mays mark this season."

Are you suggesting that with some injury luck that Frank Thomas would hit 140 HR's this year. I mean that would be cool to see but it seems like a longshot.

Not knowing for certain if he is taking the same approach as Durham makes it hard but assuming he would be willing to sign a non-guaranteed contract it would seem to make sense for the Twins to grab him. I realize they have too many outfielders with the probability of rotating a couple of them to DH so it may not work. However, the Twins could use a some power from the right side. Something to protect Justin Morneau. Currently if I was a pitcher I would never give him anything to hit. What is the downside of walking JM? Having to pitch to Kubel? Young? Cuddyer? Maybe Thomas doesn't pan out but each year the Twins sign some scrap heap player (Batista, Sierra, Monroe, etc...) so t wouldn't be out of their realm of possibilities. And IF by some chance the Big Hurt is able to rebound some and provide 25 home run power that would be a huge addition for the Twins.

This post should have been called "Doubting Thomas". You missed a real opportunity there.

If he rebounds a little and he's a DH worth 1.5-2 wins, the list of potential suitors would have to be pretty short, Since he's an injury risk, it's one of those moves where a GM could stand to look pretty silly without a whole lot of upside.
