It's a good sign.
& It's not like the Tigers couldn't make a trade if the opportunity arises at the deadline. If Renteria bounces back a bit, he could be worth bringing in around that time, since I doubt you would need to give up much (assuming the Giants are out of contention, it would only cost about $3,500,000 in salary).

This is a very good signing for the Tigers. Everett provided them with a lot of defensive value (almost 1/3 of the team's non-negative defense) and with Polanco gone and Mags/guillen staying in the field, the tigers need all the defense they can find.

As I point out in the name link, Porcello's 2010 fantasy relevance hinges upon the Tigers infield.

Last year Sizemore was helped by a ridiculously high BABIP as much as Rhymes was hurt by a low one. I will concede Sizemore is the better defender, but Rhymes has had a better BB/K ratio over his career and a surprisingly small Speed Score difference from Sizemore. Sizemore has higher upside, but right now they're not too different.

Polanco has never played short for a significant amount of time, so that would have been a ridiculous idea.

And yes, most people think that Sizemore is a major league ready player. Sure as hell more than Will Rhymes.

Because Will Rhymes projects to -24 runs per 150 with the bat and another -4 per 150 on defense (per CHONE).

I'm glad I got basically the same projection at my blog.

Why? Why? Couldn't Will Rhymes fill in at second and even move Polanco back to short? I'm sure he would've been well above average. Is there anyone outside Detroit management who thinks Sizemore is ready?
