Maybe the Braves will inquire to Bowden about one of their OF? WIllingham seems like a better option salary wise than Swisher, and if Bowden was smart he could use Willingham (Or Dukes to a greater degree, but also unlikely) to inject some life into a lifeless farm with some of the Braves' flowing talent.

Dunn is now signed for 2 years @ 10m. That’s cheap

Adam Dunn signed for the going rate for an Adam Dunn. I wouldn't call that "cheap." And why would a team trade something of value for the right to pay Adam Dunn's salary when they could have just signed him a few months beforehand?

The whole idea of signing a free agent just to trade him doesn't make sense. Someone has to want that player, and it's pretty obvious that there isn't much interest in Dunn.

All the teams that are kicking themselves in 2 months will be calling. I’m sure this is how he sold Dunn on signing anyway. Why else do it?

Because that's the best offer he had?

Washington Reds? You mean Redskins? Dunn's a big guy and everything, but I don't know if he's THAT big...

He's available next week...who cares? Everyone passed for a reason already. It's not like Dunn chose to go to the Nats for a discount.
My best guess is he sold Dunn on signing with a two year contract, not an implicit guarantee that he'd be traded in 2 months

Actually, glancing at his stats again, I would say he had a great stretch at the end of the season there.... .226 ISO and more walks than strikeouts. Why isn't he getting a look?

Jim Bowden will probably utilize his outfield depth by switching pitchers every inning. That way he will need 8 different pinch hitters, and that covers just about everyone.

Also, what happened to Justin Maxwell? I thought he was highly regarded by the organization, but he just seems to be getting shut out with all of these players the Nats are bringing in. He came back decently from his injury, but the .243 BABIP probably masks that a good bit.

In all fairness to Bowden, I think we should wait until the offseason is over before giving him a grade. He still has a chance to make a favorable trade from his outfield depth. I guess Bowden's poor track record makes it unlikely that he will be able to pull this off, but there is still a chance. What's Wayne Krivsky doing these days?

Regardless of Bowden's recent track record, I think he's just stock piling for trade purposes. Dunn is now signed for 2 years @ 10m. That's cheap and he's available next week. All the teams that are kicking themselves in 2 months will be calling. I'm sure this is how he sold Dunn on signing anyway. Why else do it?

Am I alone in thinking Willingham is the odd man out if Johnson comes in at 100% health? All things being equal, which they never are, I'd rather have Johnson's fat-arse and good OBP clogging up my bases.

It seems like the consenus is Dunn's going to be entrenched at 1st base, but I doubt if he plays half his games there.

Of course, I'm basing my opinion on a healthy Johnson -- but I'm not going to assume he's injured going into the season.

Is there anyway that Johnson could eat Patterson and become Carlos Beltran v2.0 -- I guess he'd have to borrow Kearn's arm too..

Not necessarily. Most teams have a player or two that's just above replacement. If that player sits because of a hiring, then you basically get the full value of the hiring. The most straight forward way this happens is when you replace your replacement level postion player with a better player to play that position. But you could replace your replacement 2B by adding an SS and moving the former SS to 2B or something like that.

Also, when you loose a player to FA, you get the full value of whomever replaces him.
