Really? Ridiculous? If Sanchez becomes Mike Piazza is it ridiculous? Let’s let it play out. Just because the Pirates didn’t pick who BA and you thought was the fourth best player doesn’t make it right or wrong. Performance makes it right or wrong. Put your grading hat back in the box for a few more years Richie.

Well, the Nats didn’t severely fubar the slotting system, they got their man, and SS has a place to fulfill the dream of many (if not all) ML’ers: face of the franchise. Oh, and for an s-load of money. Hopefully this removes doubt as to Rizzo’s competence, not moving Guzman withstanding.

Would the players reps trade some of the phenomenal millions for untested prospects if the salary for all minor leaguers is raised to compensate?

Right now, if you don’t get that massive bonus you are spectacularly underpaid for putting your life on hold to pursue the long long shot of making it in the bigs.

It only works because athletes gotta be majorly self-delusional (and some portion of the minor league population may not be potential phd-candidates anyway).

Mitchell has been as advertised for the Sox. Great tools and a good plate approach as well.

It looks like the team has finally decided to go with some high upside picks in the 1st round rather than whoever will sign below slot.
