Fan Projection Targets: 12/9/2009

Today’s targets are Ian Kennedy, Ivan Rodriguez, and Joakim Soria.

Kennedy was part of the blockbuster deal yesterday, and finds himself a new home in Arizona.

Rodriguez signed with the Washington Nationals as part-player, part-mentor.

Meanwhile, tomorrow is the annual Rule 5 draft, and Soria is probably the most recent shining example of a raw pitcher being taken and becoming something ridiculous.

We don’t project saves for closers?

Nope. You specify a role (closer) and the rest of the stats. S and BS are projected on the basis of an algorithm for that sort of thing.

Just seems weird, given that we’re asked to provide W and L. Both stats are just as team-dependent as Sv. I’m not being accusatory, just kind of curious.

      • Well, I’d say saves are particularly weird, even more so than wins and losses and are way more dependent on a pitcher’s role than how well they do, where at least wins and loses have *some* basis in reality.
