FanGraphs Search Plugin
There’s been a bunch of requests for a Firefox search plugin so here it is!
FanGraphs Search Plugin for Firefox and IE7
Just go to the link, click on “FanGraphs Player Search” and you’ll now have an option in your search box to search for FanGraphs players right in your browser.
Another useful tool for writers that I haven’t mentioned in a while and incidentally has no link anywhere on the site is the FanGraphs Player Linker. Just copy and paste the text of your post into the linker, hit the “Link Players Now!” button, and all player names will be linked. Players with the same name won’t link but other than that it will link both major and minor league players.
David Appelman is the creator of FanGraphs.

Awesome, thanks David! This site has been on a roll lately. Keep it up!
A tip for firefox users, you can do the same thing by right clicking in the search box at the top of this page and selecting “Add a keyword for this search…”. You can then make a keyword, such as “fan” which when entered into the address bar and followed by a players name, will search for that player on the site.
Excellent addition.
David, you rock.
Wow that is really cool!
Ryan B. or others, any reason why that keyword trick doesn’t work with Fangraphs on my Mac running OSX 10.3.9 and Firefox 2.0.0.18? Everything’s fine with with other sites like THT and B-Ref…
Sky: I think it doesn’t work with the keyword trick because it’s not an actual form. You can create a bookmark to do the same thing manually:
Create a new bookmark and fill in the fields as follows:
Name: FanGraphs
Location: http://www.fangraphs.com/players.aspx?lastname=%s
Keyword: fg
Now in the navigation bar just type in “fg Barry Bonds” to search for Barry Bonds on FanGraphs.
Excellent, thanks David.
This trick is broken, it may have to do with your site, or the version of firefox I’m using, but it just stopped working for me.
Thanks.
Whoa that bookmark trick with the keyword thing is awesome!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ve wanted one of these for a while now.
Hey,
The link is dead. Just got a new comp and tried adding the add-on today. When its fixed can you let us know?
Thanks
Link seems to be working for me.
Maybe it’s a mac issue? I’ll try it again tonight.
its working now. thanks
Can you make a plugin for Google Chrome as well?
I retract my statement. Nice work FG!
