Have one righty, one lefty and whoever isn't pitching can stay in the outfield. Be interesting to see someone try it (or the LOOGY/ROOGY from JMHawkins), just to get the reactions of the players involved. I'm guessing there are some pitchers who'd like the challenge and others who wouldn't go near the idea. Could there be a role for a hybrid? What if a team had a matched pair of relievers, a LOOGY and a, um, ROOGY who could each play a servicable leftfield. Actually, it happened at least as recently as 7/15/1993 at Fenway, when Jeff Nelson got two outs for the Mariners in the bottom of the eighth and then moved to left field while lefty Dennis Powell retired Mike Greenwell for the third out. Strong start by Smoltz, 5 innings 10 k's. They are really trying to limit his innings as much as possible, hopefully helping his longevity and preventing injury. Maybe the Braves will finally break out of their slump this year and start to pick things up. Back-to-back-to-back home runs sure doesn't hurt. Man did the Braves pitching dominate tonight.
