I think the gap between the two is a bit bigger than that. Halladay's going to pick up a few more strikeouts against weaker competition and throwing to the pitcher spot two or three times a start, and he's less dependent on a low HR/FB rate because he gets more grounders.

It really depends which prospects are moving around who wins this one.

Apparently he is willing to sign a long term contract with the Phils. It will be interesting to see who is part of this deal from the M's.

Not sure if it makes the Phils any better next year (maybe a .5 win advantage?), though. Interesting trade, though.

I wanted to suggest here that Gross would be a good fit for the Nat's RF dumpster fire of recent years, but looking at the numbers regarding current 40 man roster RF's, it's probably too early to right off Dukes. Even if so, I was surprised to see Justin Maxwell put up 1.1 WAR over 40 games (sss UZR alert). So perhaps those are superior internal options, all things considered.

It will be interesting to see where Gross ends up and what the publicly stated reasons are for his signing -- I say this as a means of getting an indication as to what the club saw with respect to how this community views him.
