Part of the comeback was fueled by Tampa Bayâ€™s decision to use Grant Balfour, not a left-hander, to pitch to Ortiz in the seventh. Ortiz was 1 for 4 off Balfour, 1 for 9 off Howell and 1 for 11 off Miller. But more importantly Ortiz’s power is substantially less against lefties and HR was the only way they get the crowd back in the game there.

There’s no doubt that Tampa’s bullpen is the goat of the game, but that’s obvious and I was trying to dig a little deeper. I am certainly not letting a bullpen that allowed eight runs in 2.2 innings off the hook.
