So Dave, what are your thoughts of giving Balentein some PA's behind Ichiro when he plays? Seems like a great possible example of this.

When you plot a trend line in Excel, it gives you the R^2 value.

I'd like to see that, too. From the labeled names on the graph, it definitely seems like there was a move from high-Iso to low-Iso guys along the FB% axis, even though that wasn't the control.

Did you expect Mae Mordabito's stats included in the analysis?

Bring this baby into the third dimension! I'd like to see a plot of FB% versus ISO and O-swing, with planes of best fit! Okay, I'm a math nerd, but that's allowed here, right?

Dave -

Are you sure this isn't just a lesser-correlated proxy for the FB% vs. ISO relationship you previously charted. I suspect that high-contact slap hitters will tend to be the same players who don't chase pitches out of the zone, which would move them to the bottom of the graph. As your previous post demonstrated, those are the same batters who also get more fastballs.

Check out The Book by Tango/Lichtman/Dolphin. There's a good study on line-up protection in there.

OOOps I meant to say it would help a players batting average to bat in front of Ortiz. Walks in front of Pena.
