We already know what what happens on balls in play is a lot of luck, and I can't help but suspect that hitting for extra bases is as well. To put it another what, I can't help but think that the best answer to the question "What's the difference between a single and double?" is "Where the outfielders are standing." Boy does this make me wonder whether there’s a lot of luck involved in extra base (non-home run) hitting.
