however, any team that looks like they're going to make the playoff should immediately add Hinske to the bench as good luck charm (holy shit they dude made the WS 3 strait years and won twice on 3 different team!!)

Hinske might not be able to hit Brad Lidge, but Lidge can hit Mark Teixeira.

/Yankee-fan douchemode
//No, that's not redundant

Whoa whoa whoa. This guy is an AL East good luck charm.

Blue Jays: won Rookie of the Year
Red Sox: made World Series
Rays: made World Series
Yankees: made World Series

Hinske is a below average defender at 3B, but he's not awful (-5 UZR/150). You know who needs a 3B?

The Baltimore Orioles.

If you regress to the mean and account for age... looks like the O's are going to the ALCS next year!

I'd have to think that Thome's platoon split also makes him a better candidate. He continues to put up a .900 OPS against RHPs, which is damn good.

Thome, imo, is still a better option for a team looking for a one year fix than Hinske. Thome's still good enough in one area (hitting) to warrant everyday, or almost everyday status.

Oakland should take a shot at him, in my opinion. As we saw with Giambi, Beane isn't one to shy away from low risk contracts on good but old free agents. LAA will be weaker than in 2009 and the farm system keeps producing fruit in Oakland, may as well take a run at it.
