Shane Reynolds had a great game, too, and it was completely — and deservedly — overshadowed by Wood’s historic performance.

I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that’s the best stuff I’ve ever seen a pitcher have. Futility is a word that comes to mind. Some of those breaking balls looked like good knucklers–except they were going about 85. To see a great hitter like Jeff Bagwell try to square up a fastball and miss it by six inches is something else. Dusty Baker is bad man for killing Wood’s career as a starter.
