How about the fact that if he'd played enough to qualify he would have lead the NL in OPS+ in 2007! The only players who had a better OPS+ last year were A-Rod, Pena and Ortiz.

That is interesting Trev. Glad to hear the NL has the better voters.

Also, another thing concerning Bonds that goes unnoticed is the amount of focus/discipline he had to have. Obviously, he had to have discipline to walk so many times, but he still had to stay so focused for all of his other ABs. Here's what I mean: from 2001-2004, Bonds had 2,443 PAs and 755 BBs. That means he was walked 31% of the time! (In 2004 it was 38%!). So over a 4 season period, he walked almost 1 out of ever 3 plate appearances. Pitchers were not throwing him a lot to hit, so he still had to remain very focused for the occasions when he actually got something in the zone.

You're forgetting the most important part: APPARENTLY, he's NOT THAT NICE! So let's quit with the mumbo-jumbo statistical lovefest. He's obviously just too controversial to help a team.

It was quite amazing to see somebody dominate the sport to that extent. Hopefully it will happen again in our lifetimes.

I got bored one day and put together a spreadsheet of all the WPA leaders (batters only) vs. the MVPs.

From 1974-2007 (all the WPA data on fangraphs), Albert Pujols has the highest non-Bonds season in 2006 at 9.57 WPA.

One thing I did notice is that the AL voters are much worse than the NL voters. The AL voters left 3 WPA leaders off the ballots completely vs. only one for the NL. AL voters got the MVP "right" only 8 times while NL voters did it 15 times.

This of course does not take into account defense, position, and I'm not sure if WPA has a park adjustment.

But yes, only Barry is the only person to crack 10 wins above average.
